We paid a PREMIUM price for this game and it hasn't been updated in over a year. No iPhone X, XS, XR support. Ridiculous.

I grew up with final fantasy and honestly, IX was my least favorite at the time (although being an FF game I thought was still incredibly good). I’m so glad I downloaded this port, which make no mistake, this is a high quality port and I experienced no crash issues at all, controls were very intuitive, and graphically the game looks like it was made for an iPhone. This rekindled my love for IX and I now feel like I can appreciate it the way I should have all those years ago. An absolute masterpiece. Please if you are an rpg fan in the slightest, download and play this game. I feel square enix can be gimmicky lately with what feels to be cash grabs, but this one is worth the price tag.

This was the first Final Fantasy I played, and I immediately fell in love with both the franchise and genre. This is an almost perfect port of the game. One thing that I wish for is that they had updated the back drop resolution. I’m playing on iPad and the characters look great but the backdrops look dated. It not a deal breaker but you definitely see the contrast between the two when playing. I’m still gonna give it 9 stars though.

This game has been one of my favorite RPGs for many many years. I continue to love the game so much. When I found out it was available for my phone and iPad I was super excited but waited because my phone was awful. Besides the point. I felt like this was the best time playing it. So much fun and it truly felt natural. The controls were great and it seemed to run better on my phone. Will continue to buy more!
  • Honestly the best way to play it

I first fell in love with this game as a kid, but didn’t have the gaming chops to completely finish it at the time. Since then, I’ve picked it up and put it down on many occasions over the years on different platforms, but still haven’t beaten it completely, due to lack of time or interest etc. I’ve happened across this version in the store once or twice in the past, but priced at $20, it didn’t seem very appetizing, considering I’ve already tried it so many times before. Now that I finally took the leap, I’m happy to say it’s hands down the best $20 I’ve spent on the App Store. All of FFIX’s original features are here, and can be played as it was originally designed. Like it’s PS4/PC versions, the mobile port also comes with two types of modifiers: permanent mods such as max level/abilities/Gil that cannot be removed once activated in the config menu, and “boosters” which can be switched on/off freely at any time in the pause menu. These boosters include a gameplay speed multiplier, instant full trance gauge, 9999 auto attacks, and random battle deactivation. This dramatically improves the quality of life offered in the original, and makes the game an endlessly customizable experience. I personally enjoy using boosters only when grinding levels just to save time, and turn them off otherwise to keep the game interesting. It also has a very handy auto save system, which has done a fantastic job of putting me right where I left off, even in the middle of dialogue scenes. While FFIX has been remastered on more powerful platforms, it doesn’t downgrade whatsoever on mobile. It controls exceptionally well with a touch screen, and boasts the same updated graphical fidelity while running effortlessly on my iPhone 7. With all of this in mind, being able to play this game entirely on the go adds an enormous layer of appeal over it’s other ports. Whether you’re a Final Fantasy veteran or an RPG fan who just never got around to picking it up, Final Fantasy IX is one of the greatest in the series. Whimsical art styles and music scores set it far apart from the earlier entries of its generation, while still maintaining deep character development and story themes ranging from heartwarming to soul-crushing that we’ve come to expect from the franchise. As someone who has gone back and forth dozens of times with this game, I can safely say that the mobile version is hands down my favorite experience with it. The price looks steep, but I guarantee it is well worth it.

Written on: June 22, 2018 I didn't really grow up with the final fantasy games so i'm not really going to sugarcoat anything on this review. I admit i did play the demo of final fantasy 10 for the ps2 when i was 10 so that's mostly all the knowledge i know of the franchise besides years later when final fantasy 3 came out for Ios. To start, this game is probably the most in-depth FF when it comes to the characters and how they interact with each other in terms of dialogue and their surroundings..you could really feel the desperation they felt as they went to each kingdom in this war-torn installment. The cutscenes were wonderfully placed and that helped to showcase the depressing violence of war. Unfortunately this is all the positives it has. While i did enjoy the game and the cutscenes were great in showcasing what being mad with power could do, i also felt most of the game was rushed and didn't pace itself well with the characters. The story starts in the middle of the war with the other kingdoms without much backstory that explains "why" and "How" it all started. It would've been nice to see how the Queen was before the war and how the antagonist managed to sneak into her castle and influence her.. The game felt incomplete for that reason in my opinion and would've actually made me care about her and her daughters relationship. The characters backstories also never have that much weight to them other than them wanting to kill the antagonist for their own reasons. The only two characters out of the 8 playable ones that had a remotely lasting impact were "the black mage" and main protagonist but mostly all the characters personalities never really change and aren't really fleshed out to where it seems like they matter in a story where the cutscenes are the most emotionally in-depth. All in all, I'm glad i played it and it was one of the better ones in terms of world building, music and cutscenes but it ultimately fell flat on everything else. I played this on an iPhone 6s!

iPhone X real-estate is not being used. Wallpaper on the sides and still more black space. Consider updating cause this is one of the best games of all time!

Not sure how I even missed this game in the PlayStation days. Great ending, great story, great game play. Brought me back to final fantasy II near the end. (FFIV) They turned materia grinding to gear grinding. Which can get repetitive adding mindless hours of game play, but they did give cheats to hurry it up if you like to.
