Description

Welcome to the Magnificat Angelus App! In some places, the church bells still ring daily in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. The Angelus is a very ancient prayer commemorating the Angel’s message (Angelus) to Mary, announcing to her that she will give birth to Jesus. This prayer is first and foremost a commemoration of the mystery of the Incarnation: God made man to save us all. By reciting it with a faithful heart, it allows you to unite your everyday life, its joys and sorrows, to God who became one of us. Taking precedence over any daily activity at a specific time, it reminds us “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God” (Mt 4:4), and even more so from the Incarnate Word, our Lord Jesus Christ! In order to help you establish the habit of praying the Angelus daily, you will be given the opportunity to set up reminders at the hours most convenient for your schedule (by default at 8am, 12pm, and 8pm). You will also be able to watch weekly videos of the Angelus recited by the Pope along with the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square at the Vatican. Your Angelus app is available in Latin and in every language of the MAGNIFICAT editions: English, French, German, Spanish, Lithuanian, Polish and Slovenian. Note: The Regina Coeli is said during the Easter season (from Easter Sunday to the day prior to Pentecost). The Angelus is said during the rest of the year. This is a very straightforward app with several options to fit the individual. It guides you through the prayer (in the language of your choice- check the settings to change- or in Latin) with optional church bells. It also has three optional reminders to pray. To set the alarms, click on the setting icon in the bottom left corner on the opening screen. You can turn the alarms off or edit the times with the pencil. I thought it was obvious, but I wanted to clarify since an earlier review said they couldn't find how to change the times from the defaults.

This is a fantastic app, you decide the times of day you want it to ring (I stick to noon and 6 pm). It has options for the angelus in English or in Latin which is great. During Easter season it automatically switches to the Regina Coeli. Highly recommend as a way to improve prayer life!

Rings for me at 8,2,8. No way obvious to reset. Customer service unresponsive. Just set your phone alarm instead
  • A simple, straight-forward app

It does what it says it does. One disadvantage is that you need an Internet connection to pray the Angelus with the pope. The video includes the Pope’s Angelus message, but if you don't know Italian you have to skip through it to pray the Angelus with the pope in Latin.

I had never prayed the Angelus before, but it's easy to do with this app. I love the sound of the church bells that remind me to pray three times a day!
