FilmStruck is a great service that provides incredible content. Most streaming services have been culling their film libraries for their original shows, so anyone who considers themselves a film fan should have FilmStruck. The library is astounding, and the extras are always comprehensive and edifying. The app itself is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. Overall, totally worth the price of admission.
  • Incomplete & Half-hearted Showcase

To people intending to subscribe to this service: beware. Filmstruck does not give users access to the full catalog of Criterion films. It is only a very partial offering of the entire catalog. I assume they no longer have the rights to stream Grand Illusion, Last Year at Marienbad, Kagemusha, Ran, Blood of the Poet, Pan’s Labyrinth, Devil’s Backbone, and countless others, though they do have Criterion editions of these. Visually, the bitrate and streaming quality are tolerable for small screens and the interface is quite nice & legible. Mechanically, it’s a different story. The search function is very simplistic and each film launch/description page lacks hyperlinks which would group all works that feature that specific director, actor, crew member, year, genre, etc. into a page of results. At least the films that they DO have are magnificent. Nevertheless, due to the number of holes where content & construction are concerned, this product is very incomplete. Therefore, I would advise against anyone wasting their money & energy on this until Filmstruck has its act together.
  • What happened???

I used to use this so much more compared to other streaming services but for the last couple of months the app is borderline unusable on the Apple TV. If you scroll up or down, it's very sensitive. If you scroll left to right it's incredibly sluggish. If you are in the watchlist screen and you scroll up or down, it goes to random places that aren't even close to the gesture you made. It's borderline comical. I can't go through my watchlist without it bringing me back to the main sidebar every few seconds. This really needs to be fixed and have it optimized to run with the Apple TV remote.
  • Love the movies the app is terrible

I was waiting for the day I could no longer get Criterion through Hulu. It came and I gave in and subscribed to FilmStruck. The movies are fine but a top shelf movie offering deserves a better app. It’s very clumsy to scroll though on the Apple TV and on the phone you can’t even paste in a password? Please upgrade! You’re making enough money.
  • Why is this app so bad

The movies on here are some of the best of all time but the app is so hard to get around. Why can I only look at my watchlist 2 titles at a time? Also why can’t I share my watchlist? Why is there no search by decade like there is on the criterion website?
  • Please switch option on/off the home indicator bar

Please update the app to include a switch option to the home indicator bar on the iPhone X. The bar should option to disappear (and tap to reappear) when watching movies, thanks. The bar is otherwise a constant and unnecessary distraction. My update: Well, I found a trick to disappear the offending bar. It works on videos in Photos and YouTube videos. FilmStruck not so much (yet?). And it’s only 7 steps deep! - settings - general - accessibility - switch control - menu items - top level - home (deselect) Enjoy!

I can't imagine life without Filmstruck now that I have it. I love good films, and until now it was hard to find anything except commercial films. Filmstruck is first class. I keep discovering new directors and films and learning. What a joy!

The film selection is excellent. Filmstruck has lots of films I couldn’t find streaming, and some I couldn’t find even at a pretty good film rental place. I also have enjoyed several of the short background pieces about some of the films, and I pick up films I didn’t know about by delving into their curated collections featured on the main page. I subscribed when it was still a little glitchy technically, but bugs seem to all be gone now. Check out their film list to see if it fits your taste. I had a watchlist of over 80 films within days of subscribing.
