  • Great app with a Few Caveats

    I have been using DirecTV Now for seven months now, and overall I’m mostly pleased with the experience. As long as I have a strong network connection, I have been able to watch my shows from pretty much anywhere. I was frustrated with the app experience for Verizon FiOs because I couldn’t watch shows in the app while they were still recording and some networks such as Fox I could only watch recorded shows at home on my cable box. I became frustrated with the restrictions and yearly price increases of cable and decided to try DirecTV Now after months of consideration. The Apple TV offer was also pretty persuasive. 😁 I’m a big TV person and have been for most of my life. DirecTV Now has allowed me to cut the cord without feeling like I have to make sacrifices. I get all of the channels I need with the Live A Little package, and I like that DVR is available, even if it’s limited to 20 hours. I hope they expand the number of hours without charging extra in the future. DVR is good but sometimes I have issues where I only want to record new episodes but all episodes for a show record instead. Also, for some shows that air M-F, I have to set the recording everyday as it doesn’t automatically record new episodes as expected. Besides that though, DVR works well and I like that I am still able to fast forward through commercials. Additionally, I have access to all of my favorite sports channels and the games are clear when watching live. I think DirecTV is one of the few services to offer NFL Network. I haven’t tried it but the Sunday Ticket package is available in select major cities. I also like that they offer Viacom (CBS, MTV, BET, etc) channels as well. Also, I love that HBO is only $5 per month! As for the navigation experience on the Apple TV, it definitely takes some getting used too but is not too complicated overall. When fast forwarding, you have to pause first and scroll ahead unless you want skip in 15 second increments. Sometimes the option to skip ahead 15 seconds disappears and you can only pause to fast forward which can be annoying when it occurs. Also, the “Watch Now” section adapts to what you watch over time and after awhile will show you the stations that it thinks you are most interested in. I saved all of my favorite channels in the guide and use it to view the schedule. It is in alphabetical order so I like that I don’t have to remember channel numbers. “My Library” is where your DVR shows are located and “Bookmarks” is to watch your favorite shows on demand. I haven’t used the “Discover” tab. 🤷🏽‍♂️ The only other downside to the app is that not all of the local stations have a contract with The CW so I have to watch those shows on demand or use the CW app which is free and actually doesn’t require a TV subscription. With respect to the TV apps, I love the Apple TV app! I also like the redesigned app on the Fire Stick and the iPhone and iPad apps work well. You have access to the individual TV apps just in case you get behind on DVR, so I have been able to keep up with my favorite shows pretty well. I have all of my local stations as well except for the CW as I mentioned previously. Only two streams are included in your subscription so it caters to singles and couples instead of families. You can add a third stream for $5 but I feel like it should be included. My package increased in price by $5 dollars in September so my only major concern is that the price will continue to increase here and there until it is no longer cheaper than a cable subscription. I can definitely say I am pleased with my overall experience with DirecTV Now and highly recommend it to TV junkies exacerbated by ever increasing cable prices. I have cut the cord, don’t feel like I’m missing anything, and have no plans to return to cable. I saved about $85 on my cable bill when I switched! 🤑

    This is one of the poorest performing apps in the App Store. Rarely does it work when opened for the first time. It requires multiple force closes and re-openings to get the app to load properly. I would expect more from AT&T and DIRECTV

    I haven't had a watching session that hasn't had a frozen screen with sound, a crash, a "you're not in the right region" type message. Usually a combination of these and not just one. I was also an early adopter and told I would get a price for the life of the service just to have it raised right before all this buggy garbage started.

    Tried out the app for 6 months, I feel like an idiot for not cancelling sooner. The app constantly closed out, had issues playing shows, was missing tons of content, had multiple outages, and to top it off, the price increased! I chatted with customer service 6 times (would have been 1,000 times if I reported all the issues) and each time I wasted an hour or more. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

    Directvnow is just got worst. DVR never works it records ramdom shows and worst of all they raised price by $5.00 dollars Not worthit... Their intuitive system is just plain horrible. Why if it never works they are tryng to be Netflix or Hulu which are better options and priced correctly. Make your self a favor and just don’t use At&t scam call directv Not now.. Because it never works... Note: system logs you out... They don’t know what they are doing.. They should ask Netflix or hulu for help.. Update: still dosn’t work, guide never shows lineup.. keeps getting worst by the hour.. DVR is on demand shows it doesn’t really record it records shows not related in one word ..idiots.. Update: Try to unsuscribed from their e-mails I dare you??? There is no option they hide this option to keep their mailing list full for resale and to show investors of how many subscribers they have...just another directtv Scam.. Update: Scam direct now records unauthorized shows on your dvr account to make numbers higher for Nielsen Measurement if you noticed programs or shows being recorded that you don’t know that is direct tv now running their scam and yes they will blame it on a glitch on their favor. Very unethical practices.

    Update: FIX YOUR APP. The program changes while I’m watching something, even if it’s something in my bookmarks. The sound cuts out a lot. The captions sometimes disappear or are out of order. The app overall is terrible and it glitches.

    This service is terrible. I have been trying to cancelled for months. Difficult to contact a live person. Months went by and they keep billing my credit card and I never used the service. They finally credit my credit card but only for 2 months vs the 4 months

    You sigh up for this and you can’t get rid of it! No way to contact anybody about the discontinuation! No way to stop them from charging your account! When “chat” with someone about stopping the charge And discontinuing the app they stop all contact. Legal action must be next! Zero stars!
