Works okay. No return to top of the feed so when you scroll down you have to scroll all the way back up, even when you go to other sections, if you return to a section it tales you where you left and not to the top. Also seems to crash a lot more than any other app I use, kind of frustrating. But at least it provides the news so I will keep it.

No problem signing up, but to cancel you must call during business hours and ask for permission to cancel. Not interested in the new direction this organization is taking.

Needlessly stores tons of data on the device. You have to periodically delete it because there’s no manual or automatic way to clear this data

I can no longer load NYT content to my iPhone. Way too many bells and whistles. At least make a text only option.
  • Huge ads and no night mode

It’s fascinating that after so many years of updates this app still doesn’t have a night mode. Maybe I missed it somewhere or NYT wanted me to sleep tight at night. The ads on the other hand seems everywhere at the front page as well as in each article, even though I’m a paid subscriber. Good job, NYT!
  • Too many LARGE ads....

I pay good money for this paper subscription. But I’m still presented with multiple, recurring ads on each news story. These ads are obstructive to the content of the article and OBNOXIOUS, sometimes taking up the full screen of a 12” iPad, and sometimes with this same full page ad displayed multiple times in the same article. #SAD!
  • Slow

This version runs slower than the previous version. When I open an article it takes seconds to display, it’s ridiculous.
  • Terrible reliability, not worth the price

(Sep 19, 2018) The app has become even more unreliable in the last few months. In particular, when an ad is scrolled onto the screen from the bottom, it will freeze. Nothing you do will get the app working again until you force quit it. Super frustrating. (Mar 24, 2011, v2.3.9 - 1 star, title: Terrible reliability, not worth the price) This application is nearly unusable. It crashes at least once every other time I use it, and I would typically check it 6-8 times a day. If you use it for more than a few minutes, it also tends to crash. When it crashes, you have to restart it twice before it will run again. Sometimes when it doesn't crash, it will stop downloading news, even if you manually push the button. Then you have to kill the application (if you're on iOS 4 anyway) and start it twice. On top of the fact that the application is terrible, NY Times is now charging $15/month to access it, or will be on March 28th. I have uninstalled this and turned to The Washington Post. That application so far has never crashed on me (despite its reviews indicating unreliability) nor failed to download updated news. It's not as easy to use as the NYT application (when it worked), and it lacks NY/NYC local news (which I rarely read), and has a little different slant/bias, but it's perfectly adequate and more than meets my needs. Overall: Stay away from this application. Try the WaPo. (Nov 11, 2010, v2.3.6 - 3 stars, title: Great content, great UI, terrible reliability) The NY Times has great content. You knew that or you wouldn't be looking at this. The UI is also great. It's easy to browse through sections, and you can easily reconfigure the bottom bar to include the ones you like best. It has the best UI of USA Today, NPR News, Associated Press, etc. The big problem is that the application crashes a lot on my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.x. It doesn't often crash when I am actually using it, but if I switch apps and come back, it will be crashed. Then, you need to launch it twice again before it will work. Very inconvenient, especially if you get a phone call and then can't get back to the article you're reading. This is especially painful if you were reading something in Latest News that isn't there anymore. It could really use an additional section, "Recently Viewed Articles," which keeps the last 50 articles (or however many) that you read ready for easy re-reading.
  • Dang ads

Yall. I would think that paying money each month for the full access to the times would be rewarded with no ads in the app. Nope. Ads every three lines of text. Way lame. I want to read the news, not go shopping for beach ware.
