  • The worst.

    I would give zero stars if I could. Paid subscription app is just an ad delivery system. App locks up on last article every day. Have to close and reopen 10 times to get it working again. Search function has been limited compared to previous versions. If the future is digital, The Times is in trouble. This app is terrible.

    It is to the point where I am thinking about cancelling my subscription to NYT - this morning I have no current stories no morning briefing and an listening to NPR for current news
  • Simple, extremely well-curated, outstanding content

    This is the app I spend the most time with, hands down. The content is top-notch: succinct, trustworthy, professional. It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to the sensationalism and shoddy reporting we’re exposed to on social media. I spend 1/2 to an hour every night reading through the Top Stories tab, then finish up with their one-minute crossword. As for the app itself, I don’t understand all the 1-Star reviews; I’ve had zero problems with it, and just can’t fathom how one could rate an app ONE star because the app has ads. It’s a newspaper folks, they have to support themselves somehow right? I would actually rate this app higher if I could just based on the fact that their ads are relatively tasteful and not CPU or bandwidth-hogging, or full-screen takeovers. I’ve really enjoyed some of the multimedia stories like the long-scrolling, annotated video graphic of Greenland’s melting ice park. Really, really love this app
  • Excellent app... Two requests

    I use this app daily and continue to do so, I do have two requests though. First I was wondering about the possibility of making a feature to notify me when the evening briefing becomes available. It is very helpful having this option for the morning briefing and believe expanding it would be helpful to many people. Second when I get a news alert on my watch is there a way to not have to tap it to read? I work on my feet all day and am often short handed. A direct response or an email to send this to would be greatly appreciate. Again thank you for this great!
  • Paid Subscriber - Disappointed

    Perhaps it was a bit idealistic to hope to support quality journalism with my monthly subscription. The NYT organization has done a fantastic job with staying current with modern web trends and supporting the development of software in that realm, but they seem to have fallen really short with their business model here. It’s unfortunate that spending nearly $20 a month would not cut out the ads for our family - the otherwise seamless and friendly user experience is marred by a constant stream of ads. Frankly, the experience would be much, much better if they’d cut the ads out for paid users - and perhaps implement a “dark” mode for reading.

    Now I cannot print articles. I click on up-arrow (share) and my printers are no longer an option. Not a problem with other apps.

    Customer service through the app was incredibly easy. Reporting a missing paper delivery and getting a new one delivered the next day took less than a minute. Also, finding articles on the app and reading them is simple and clear. Well done.
  • Lots of Ads... Some News

    Borrow from the Washington Post’s outstanding app. I want the newspaper in a digital format just like the Post. I don’t feel like I’m getting all the New York Times has to offer. An ad every three to five paragraphs makes the app terribly tacky. I might as well surf the web for click bait articles. Please improve he app to be consistent with the high-quality reporting the Times is known for.
