  • Fun activity; questionable ethics

    By ismilez
I started geocaching almost 10 years ago - hubby and I loved all aspects of it enough to fork over the $10 for the full app (pricey back then). But, then, the app stopped working because groundspeak required more money from users. This seemed unfair, as half of the community were happily volunteering time and supplies to create the caches in the first place. Then, the subscription model of $5/month! To access data that is uploaded by others on caches that are maintained by others! And, that the majority of users only access a few times per year, and usually as a fun and leisurely activity with kids or friends! I spend less than half that for hardcore business and productivity apps that I use DAILY, like several times a day! Sadly, I left geocaching for several years because I was so turned off by this. I just came back as several people have asked me about it and I find that there still have been no major developments to justify this cost. Just basic design tweaks here and there. This is so disappointing, as geocaching is a fantastic activity that once brought people from all over the world together and relied on the volunteer efforts of placers and maintainers. It still has those aspects but is definitely tainted by greed somewhere in the mix. 😢
  • Needs improvement

This app hardly gives you any options as a basic member. It’s pretty much pointless to pay for premium if you can access the website.
  • Try it

I love this game/hobby and I love this app. Very easy for a technophobe such as I to navigate. If u are looking for an all ages activity that gets you out of the house, I highly suggest this.
  • Groundspeak ripped off users and stole $500 mil

    By tech support user
I don’t know what is up with the corp but stealing more than $500 million from users that used the geocaching classic app and refused any refund when the app was shutdown. escalation to BBB and personal correspondence has never been resolved. High-tech thieves like Theranos.
  • Little respect for original purchasers!

    By DarthCagobe
I too am one who paid to download the original app; now the company wants subscription payments. Grandfather in your customers who already paid and show some gratitude to those who helped create your company. Shameful money grab! How can this app have a 4.7 review??? Is it another shady move that the company is submitting its own false reviews; I wouldn’t trust them again to spend a penny on this bait and switch scheme....they need to be held accountable and Apple will be receiving a complaint from myself to correct the unethical practice going on with this app.
  • Miss trackables

    By Jlb1337
I wish the number of trackables in a cache still showed up on the cache’s homepage.
  • Great but

I set up my account on the website but when I sign in with the app the credentials do not sync.
  • The compass really needs to be fixed

    By CC in AZ
It’s frustrating to always need to open the iOS compass, which then somehow fixes the compass on this app. This is a big enough issue that I can’t do a higher rating.
  • Bad app

    By Brutascacher
Been a member since 2005 and introduced hundreds of people around the world to geocaching. Myself and many of those refuse to geocache because we paid for the $9.99 version and then you bailed on us loyal users for a greedy subscription model. Bad app, bad company, pad people
