    This app is the worst! I downloaded it to participate in a running contest with some friends. My loyalty to them is all that kept me from deleting the app the first time I used it. It is not at all intuitive, is less accurate than any other running app I’ve used and the worst part is the Share setting. It is automatically enabled to the Everyone setting and there is no way to know that, until you inadvertently post your first run by saving it. I’m coming back from an injury and am currently so slow I can’t keep up with my running group. Just getting out and moving again is a painful challenge and seeing my worst times posted for all the world to see made me want to give up rather than keep going. Fast or slow I’m not a person who likes to announce all of my activities to the world but this app only allows workouts to “count” toward challenges if they are posted for everyone to see. I couldn’t stomach it so I made most of my runs private and only posted enough to keep participating with my friends. I think the creators of this app should really reconsider if posting publicly should be a requirement to participate in challenges. Why does my effort only “count” if I brag about it? Shouldn’t it be enough for me to work privately to reach a personal goal? If my followers don’t see my run, did I even get off my couch?

    I enjoy using Strava as a part of my ongoing health regimen, BUT, please or please get your iOS app to landscape, and without pointing fingers at Apple for whatever hassle they may be making to get that to happen, please just do it. Thanks. (This would be a four star experience otherwise.)

    The Strava concept and database is very powerful and very handy if you like to keep track of your workouts and be social about it. But the Strava website is not a very well written one, with many interface issues that make it difficult or impossible to do specific things. The iPhone app is not any better. In fact it’s much worse. The crash is often, and it lacks lots of functionality that, for some reason, seems like it would be very easy to add in. It leads me to believe that the portable device audience is just not very important to Strava.
  • Inaccurate, and Strava doesn’t let user edit

    Strava doesn’t allow anyone to edit activities. They say this is because people would cheat on challenges and segments. That is a ridiculous policy for many reasons: 1. Some people forget to stop their watch/app at the end of their workout, so it logs their car ride home as part of the workout. 2. GPS is often wildly inaccurate on small courses, like a track, where counting laps is much more accurate. 3. Treadmill and spin workouts already don’t count towards challenges (or segments). This means the app/website already has the ability to exclude data from challenges. So make edited workouts work the same way. Strava’s one job is to be an accurate activity log. If it can’t do that, it’s worthless. Still, deserves one star (not zero) because the UI is nice, and the segments are a nice way to race the neighbors or find neat spots when traveling.
  • Strava and the iwatch app

    I’ve been using Strava for years when I (road) cycle. Then a few years ago after a total knee replacement, I started swimming. I bought a Garmin watch to track my swimming progress and was happy to see that the Garmin watch, used to share this info with the Strava app on my iPhone and automatically shared this info. It had my swim with all stats right on my iPhone. I recently was given an Apple iwatch as a gift and it has a default Strava app on it. It does not offer a swim tracking option. Furthermore, the Apple default activity app which I’ve been using for swimming does not automatically share this info with the Strava app and there is no option to do this. So, I’m kind of disappointed since I am “friends” with a few people and would them to see that I am still training. And I would like them to give me the 👍 after a swim. Now I have to explain that I’m using a new watch that doesn’t offer swimming in the Strava app. I suggest the developers figure out how to incorporate swimming in their iwatch app or at least “share” this info with the Stava app the way Garmin does.

    Love the app, features are decent. Wish you could add vert to treadmill runs. Kindof a bummer you could pound out 2K on a vert workout and get credit for none of it. Also, splits are goofy since last release often subtracting miles/time from workouts.

    I only use Strava when I ride, no Garmin on Rother device. I find it really relatable and useful I only wish I could get my speed in real time.
