  • Udemy online courses app is terrible

The Udemy courses on my iPad via Safari worked exactly like they did on my desktop, which was great. Used it that way for years, but Udemy made some change recently and now it works differently on the iPad, and not that well. It’s unusable really, so Udemy is forcing iPad users to use the app. The problem with the iPad app, which I use for music courses, is when I pause the video because I want to practice the music, the screen dims and there is an icon and some options that display in the middle of the screen. Not only that, but I have to touch the ‘ Play’ icon directly to resume. Before I could touch anywhere on the screen to pause or start the video. It is not a good user experience to use this app with music courses. The only reason I do is because I can’t put my desktop on my keyboard music stand like I can with the iPad. It’s one thing to make an app as a choice for users that want to use it, but they shouldn’t have changed the way Udemy works on Safari when logged into Udemy.com so that users are forced to use this inferior app.
  • The app needs repair or warnings to not waste your time downloading courses

Udemy App issues: I down load the video courses to watch when I am offline. This is important that you note I go offline and do not have access to the internet at various times. When this occurs I may want to spend the time watching videos. This is also important to note that I pay for my internet service. So when I download stuff I don’t want to download it again and again. It was downloaded once. That should be enough. My time should not be wasted. My money should mot be wasted. My devices should not be wasted to download something twice. It wastes my battery life to do something like download a course. And it seems these considerations are not given to a careless app design. I find that upon the Udemy app having been open in the background for several days and then being opened from the background to use it will suddenly need authentication. Upon signing in I find my downloaded courses are gone. The iPhone will still show that the enormous amount of data volume is still in the iPhone and yet the Udemy app won’t access the downloads. What I find is when I open the app, sign in as prompted, click the upper right burger-downward arrow stack, select “Downloaded Courses” the items are gone and I see “No Matching Courses” as the thing I see, indicating the actual files on the iPhone are not visible to the app. If I open any course, I can see the download arrow is not “purple” to indicate it is downloaded. It is gray to indicate it needs to be downloaded (again). The app mo longer sees the files I have downloaded and are still on the iPhone. If I go into the iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > wait forever, I can eventually see the contents of the iPhone and it’s apps that take up space/storage volume. My Udemy App is one I try to download the videos as discussed above. So I have over 387GB of Udemy videos. But none of them are accessible inside the app upon updating it or being signed out. I am unsure if updating the app is what has caused this. But this is the third time it has happened and is causing me to question what is going in with the app… If I open a course I know the videos were downloaded for (as I had been previously watching them), and I click in the downloaded section it will be blank and state “No Downloads Yet” “Your downloaded lectures go here”… But mine are not showing up. The iPhone says they are still in it. The Udemy app cannot see them…any help is welcome.

When I go to review test results, there seems to be a visual problem. The text gets much smaller and the website seems to have glitches which makes it hard to use
  • Deceptive Prices

Prices often shown list for $19-$25 until you go to check out. Then they slap you with a full $99-$120. And thats even for outdated courses. Case in point. They still have PMP courses that reference version 6 study books when version 7 is the new standard b
  • Don’t do it! Horrible customer Service

I’m not particularly one to complain but the service provided from Udemy was horrible, I feel it’s my duty to help those looking for a business education source! There are better choices! Udemy customer service is unprofessional, unreliable and can’t process information. I would highly suggest working with another company, I have countless emails with udemy, email me and I’ll send them over. Find a better source, I’m up and running and all 1000 students are happy! If you live a headache with your start up pick Udemy.
  • Udemy app riddled with bugs, poor UI choices

Love the variety of Udemy content. That is all great, but this is a review for the Udemy iOS app, which is jus filled with bugs, poor UI choices and nowhere to submit user feedback / feature requests (as of 2024-02). I hope the dev team reads this and implement some of these fixes. #(1) Bugs: - Downloaded content disappears randomly (even lectures that were recently downloaded just 2-3 days ago). - Alternatively, previous downloads just shows as never-ending spinning circle in the lecture list. So I end up with a Lecture list filled with endless spinning circles on the RHS icon. - Loading of DOWNLOADED video lectures can be very slow, sometimes taking upwards of 5 second to load, or sometimes the video just does not load at all, and I have to force quit and restart the Udemy app. ** Not sure how the download videos are implemented, if the app needs to be logged in to call home to the Udemy servers periodically. But it is particularly frustrating as I already bought the course in full, i.e. Udemy courses do not work as a subscription like in apps. So it would be good if you just let me keep downloads on my device perpetually as long as I’m logged in and connected to the internet. - Closed captioning works intermittently, or sometimes displays another language to chosen language #(2) Poor UI: - Does not display the title of the current lecture when the screen is tapped or the video is paused. So I have to either navigate back to the lecture list, or physically rotate my device to see the lecture name. Quite a hassle. - No “Lock screen” icon to prevent accidental touches - Next track and Previous media track buttons from physical input devices do not work. - On Udemy.com, the left and right arrow skips back or forwards 5 seconds (a good rewind duration IMO). But on the iOS apps, it skips back and forwards in 15 seconds durations (which is too far back… and wastes time rewatching segments I already understood). Why the inconsistency between the web and iOS interface? It would be even better if the app allows you to customize the “skip forward and back” duration to suit each individual preference (just like in the YouTube app) - Wishlist: Would also be great if users can also customize our own keyboard shortcuts. E.g. I would absolutely love it if I can bind “enter”key to “Play/Pause”
  • App doesn’t work website broke

Had the displeasure of having issues with Udemy, O’Reilly skill builder and pluralsight all work great but Udemy encrypted all their videos and I’m getting black screen on iOS and the app has broken 2 factor it keeps emailing me the same code over and over. I reached out to tech support and their tech Ava D was about as literate in technology as she an infant is in neuro science. Clearly a diversity hire. Poor support and likely poor engineering teams working on site they earned that 1 star. Good Job Udemy way to be a underachiever.
  • Stuck in 2007

It’s 2024, and the Udemy app still has no dark mode (my eyes hurt!), and there are endless rendering issues, such as pre formatted (code) text blocks being displayed with incorrect characters or running off the page. After resuming from sleep the app will not size properly, and sometimes it gets stuck in frame mode (as opposed to kiosk mode). When reception is lost (e.g. on a train), the progress of practice exams typically gets partially or completely lost - it’s unclear to me why this can’t be managed in-app and the answers only be submitted for evaluation when the test is complete. Exam answers aren’t accessible by screen readers (although questions are). You cannot navigate to Q&A without losing your place in a course. I don’t understand why Udemy hates its iOS app so much, the desktop offering is not half as bad. No match for LinkedIn Learning or Pluralsight.
  • What’s the point of downloading the course?

The irony this app teaches programming yet they can’t make their product decent enough for bare minimum. Can’t load it, can’t use it, takes ages to navigate through lectures. Unsubscribing.
