Description

GyPSy Guide GPS driving tour of the Road to Hana is an excellent way to enjoy a sightseeing trip on Maui’s most famous drive. There are 140+ audio points that play automatically, featuring what to see, stories, tips and advice. All the benefits of a guided tour, the freedom to drive yourself. TOUR GUIDE AS YOU DRIVE THE ROAD TO HANA If you like driving yourself when you go sightseeing, GyPSy Guide™ tour apps allow you to enjoy a guided tour experience while remaining totally independent. By driving yourself, you'll be able to get from place to place faster, see more things and not be tied to anyone else's schedule. DON'T MISS OUT ON THE BEST SIGHTS AND STORIES The tour apps use your device’s location abilities to play the commentary AUTOMATICALLY. No cell network signal is needed while driving. All you have to do is drive, listen and decide which places you want to stop at (and those you might decide to skip). Our tour guides have created an insightful and entertaining tour for the Road to Hana on Maui. We’ll recommend the best places to experience along the way and some great locations that most visitors will drive by. There’s so much to see and do, GyPSy will help you prioritize what suits you best and make sure you don’t miss a thing. PLAYS AUTOMATICALLY GyPSy Guide knows where you are and which direction you are heading, and plays commentary automatically about the things you are seeing, plus stories and tips and advice. EXPLORE LIKE A LOCAL It’s just like having a local friend to show you around. And that friend just happens to be a professional tour guide. GREAT VALUE The same information you would get on a bus tour or from a guide book, for just a fraction of the price. And you control the itinerary and schedule. WORKS OFFLINE No data, cellular or even wireless network connection needed while touring. Download over Wi-Fi before you tour. Anyone can use them with no need for roaming data – even visiting from another country. DRIVING TOUR ROUTE This tour includes the most popular sightseeing stops and many more: 1) Ho'okipa Beach Park 2) Ke'anae 3) Wai'anapanapa Park 4) Hana 5) Hamoa Beach 6) Wailua Falls 7) Seven Sacred Pools at Kipahulu plus many more great scenic stops. We recommend giving yourself a full day to drive the Road to Hana and start as early as you can. The tour is structured so that we concentrate on sightseeing as we drive towards Hana. Most people want to drive back without stopping, so we have all different commentary and stories for the drive back that will entertain you and pass the time more quickly. Beware of suggestions that recommend going “the back way”. You are most likely going to be in a rental car. All the major rental car companies prohibit their cars being taken on the “back side” of Haleakala. NOTES Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network. ++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle. ** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine. ABOUT US GyPSy Guide™ produce award winning audio tours along scenic drives around the world. Enjoyed by travelers who prefer to set their own pace and itinerary on vacation, but enjoy a fun, informative and educational guided experience. Our goal is to provide a great introduction to the region and perhaps inspire you to learn more and return. None of our apps include paid advertising or placements for benefit.

This app is the perfect companion for driving the road to Hana!!! We stayed in Kanapali and it gives you perfect point-by-point information on important points of interest along the way, has advice on where to park, advice on how to safely drive on the way there and teaches you the history of Hawaii and Maui on the way back. This GPS-enabled app is better than any guidebook. Best $6 we spent this trip!

This was amazing!!!! We have never used a tour app before and were so pleasantly surprised at the natural easy flow of the narrator and interesting historical stories along the way. It really was like having a guide in the car! He gave plenty of warning before turn offs and often listed pros and cons of the stop. He also gave time recommendations like....”if it’s 11:00am or earlier you are making great time and I’d recommend this stop. If it’s after lunch you may want to keep moving if you’d like to make it to the oheo pools”. On the way home he added a few stops if we wanted as well as an awesome cultural history of Hawaii in general. The story was broken up into sections so he’d take a break the resume the story down the road. Awesome app.

My wife and I loved driving the Hana road listening to this tour guide. We named him Bob! He is great and can’t believe how accurate and precise all the direction and commentary were. The guide worked even thought we didn’t have any cellular reception. Highly recommend it!

Although the app was fantastic. It was an awful long trip to get to the final destination to be disappointed. There was so much overgrowth along the trip that you couldn't see a lot of the views he was talking about. Including the first big falls hiked to in the park. Mention should be done that it costs 25. To get into the park paid by credit card only. Definitely need to head there by 8 am, which we didn't. So we didn't see the final and biggest falls, which is Beautiful. This also should be mentioned when app is downloaded. The hike to falls was fun but be sure to have homing boots or good sneakers, not flip flops. Very slippery.

The gypsy guide is a great great idea. We had high hopes. Unfortunately, Bluetooth and entire functionality was very glitchy. We did get two or three stops done with good information. I suspect most of the problem was due to relatively poor cell phone coverage. After all, the road to Hana is remote. However, the Bluetooth within the app also a problem, erratically would play on the car stereo system, which is really the only way to use it. Tech support tried to get through to us, but also lost connections. I would be willing to try again next trip, probably.

I did this tour alone, but never quite felt alone because of my pal coming through my speakers. It doesn’t use internet/ data and somehow still knew precisely where I was. 🤯🤯 mind blown! The app gave me options for where I wanted to go (a scenic view or dip my toes in the ocean?) I was off road for parts - the app told me where to park my car and where I would need to walk to get to. Fabulous. Don’t recommend attempting this without the app because I won’t be as fun. I also learned some folklore as told to me by the tour guide.
