Researchers at Monash University have developed a diet and corresponding app to assist in management of the gastrointestinal symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The Monash University Low FODMAP diet works by restricting foods high in some carbohydrates called FODMAPs. The app includes the following: - Background information about FODMAPs - A food guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods - A full recipe book including 79 original and nutritious recipes with professional photography - A shopping list for organising low FODMAP purchases - A one week food & symptom journal to monitor a strict FODMAP diet, with the function to view detailed graphs of symptoms and the end of the week

    This is the best $8 I’ve ever spent. There is so much conflicting info in the internet - partly because people misinterpret things, or only give partial info, partly because Monash University is constantly testing foods and updating. This is the ONLY way you can search for a specific food, and see exactly what the rating is for each of the 4 FOMAPS. It’s the ONLY way you’ll get a sense of which of the 4 might be your problem. My IBS symptoms had started rather suddenly and after a month, I decided to get the app and check this out. There were some foods which I’d recently been eating more of (asparagus, onions, garlic - hey, it’s Farmer’s Market season) which were all flagged as AVOID. So I checked everything I routinely eat, adjusted my diet accordingly and after just 4 days, I’m feeling much improved. $8 is less than the cost of a book and besides, you’re helping to fund the research that made this possible. So stop being cheap, and get the dang thing! You’ll be glad you did.

    Science that you trust, with clear explanations and super easy to use. It’s been a god send for me as I no longer suffer negative reactions to certain foods (cause i can identify which ones to avoid thanks to this app) but now understand why. Fitter, healthier and happiest thanks to the team that make this. 👍

    This is less useful if you are in the US but it is not more helpful than a free app that is also available. Save your money for GF bread. :)
  • Very helpful app, but lacks flexibility

    I'm using this app in the elimination phase, and the guide view look up for items and serving sizes has been extremely helpful. Would recommend that for anyone trying to do a low FODMAP diet! Unfortunately for me, the journal function is based off of using recipes found in the app, which are a lot of recipes that I would never eat, and require extensive prep, even for lunches. I have found plenty of easy low FODMAP recipes online and would love the function in the journal part of this app to "create a recipe" by adding the ingredients (from the guide view) to get a similarly accurate analysis as from using the recipes. I would also like to be able to journal my symptoms in real time, because at the end of the day I don't generally remember all of my symptoms since they have been so normalized for me :) All that being said I couldn't imagine doing an elimination of FODMAPs without this app!!

    I was disappointed with this app because it only gives general product/food information. Anything specific to the US you still have to google.

    Useful if you (ever) figure out the “proper” order of words to find what you’re looking for on the search function. Completely unintuitive - my guess is a non/english speaker created it.
  • Stop with the stoplights

    The stoplight system is asinine. Tell me the amount of each FODMAP detected in the food so I can make actual informed decisions about the food I'm eating. If you are going to charge big-boy money for an app, at least ACTUALLY PUBLISH THE DATA WE ARE PAYING FOR. Ridiculous.

    Like the concept and it has potential. It does offer good information but nothing you can’t quickly find on the internet. My main complaint is that the app should have a bar code scanning feature like My Fitness Pal so you can scan items in the grocery store and then the app gives you a red, yellow or green light indicating if the food is bad, should be avoided in large quantities or is good. Until they have this. DON’T PAY FOR IT.

    I agree with the other US users. The information is limited for those of us who shop in the US. Save your money. There are other apps out there that are free. And just as good in my opinion. But watch out for all the conflicting information.
